Katherine Nelson – Color Runner Hero

  • June 23, 2016

Three cheers for Katherine Nelson, our Color Runner Hero!

Katherine was always a rockstar, but after being overweight for a while she decided it was time to boost her fitness level and work towards a happier and healthier life.

In 2013 she bought her ticket for The Color Run, and downloaded the sweet Couch to 5K app  so she could train with The Color Run’s Runicorn!

After a few weeks of training, she partied at The Happiest 5K on the Planet and, “Absolutely loved it!” Her favorite thing about her experience was that, “It didn’t matter if you were a professional runner or just a beginner. Everyone was accepted– the objective was to have fun and make it a positive experience! Healthy isn’t one size. Happy isn’t one size. Loving yourself for you and having fun with others is so important!”

In 2014, Katherine became pregnant, and stopped exercising completely. “Once my daughter was born in February of 2015, I found myself at 249 lbs and I was miserable.” She decided to get that happy feelin’ back, so she started training with the Runicorn and counting calories.

“Other than being tired of being overweight, my biggest inspiration was to be the mother I wanted to be for my daughter,” Katherine said, “And to set a good example to her and my husband.”

While training the second time around Katherine lost 90 pounds over the year, and went from a size 16 to 8! She said, “My daughter is 16 months old and I finally have enough energy to keep up with her!” She also started an inspiring Instagram account (check her out @fatkat_tofitkat) where she posts pictures of her progress and fun healthy recipes.

Katherine wants people on a weight loss journey to know that you have to be patient and consistent. “My weight has come off slowly at an average of a pound or two per week,” Katherine said, “Setting small goals along the way helped me to not get overwhelmed about the big picture!”

Katherine is a Color Runner Hero because of her commitment and dedication to her weight loss journey. You go girlfriend! You have The Color Run family cheering you on!
