Hip hip hooray! Give it up for our Color Runner Hero Pearl Bucknam!
Pearl was four years old when she was diagnosed with cancer. Toward the end of her treatments, The Color Run came to Denver. Pearl’s mom Robyn was shocked Pearl wanted to run it after all her chemo treatments, but Robyn said, “Pearl decided to run it and since then has been the ringleader of wanting to race every year!”
In 2013, to celebrate being cancer free, Pearl joined us again at The Color Run. She told her mother that when she gets older she wants to get married at The Color Run (aww!). Robyn said, “She was stronger than ever at this race, and even had to slow down so her family members could catch up.” Go Pearl!
Pearl ran again in 2014, for her third race with 30 supporters cheering her on!
Pearl is currently 8 years old and enjoys playing, drawing, reading, and loves the pool. “Pearl has grown so much. She’s always been a smart and funny kid and her sense of humor has only gotten more keen,” Robyn said, “She’s managed to forget some of the worst parts of her treatment but is very matter of the fact with what she went through and the things she needs to do for every checkup with her oncologist.”
Pearl recently celebrated another year of clear scans! Pearl and her family were out of town for the 2015 run, but they came out to the 2016 Tropicolor World Tour in Denver on August 27th.
Robyn said, “Pearl has a pretty big fan club and many of her team members have come with her for most of her runs!” This year Pearl was joined by cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and several friends.
Robyn said they return to The Color Run each year because, “Pearl insists! She’s always excited to come and it’s a tradition.” Robyn also said that, “It’s a wonderful time for us to celebrate and remember how far she’s come and how healthy she is.”
The Color Run loved partying with Pearl for another Color Run in Denver!
